is a question that I’ve mostly answered myself with “no no, please. I don’t want more desires to take care of, to have to satisfy them or live with them taking up mental space and occupying high-up preference slots”. Funnily enough, I was avoiding falling in love or crushing on someone bc I didn’t want to have her moving up my list of priorities. I thought, I will be thinking about things either way, might as well be video games or random stuff, rather than a crush. Granted, this was at a time that I consider to be before becoming a person.

But on a recent trip to Belgium, L essentially told me that desires are great bc you get to fulfil them1. This was a very different framing, but I’ve grown to appreciate it. Specifically, I think this is great in non-Current Modes.
In [[Modes - A Manual for Myself#drift-mode|Drift Mode]], this fills up some Void Time and makes the day overall a bit more enjoyable.
But where this becomes the most useful2 is in [[Modes - A Manual for Myself#doldrums-inert-mode|Inert Mode]], where noticing just the smallest of desires and fulfilling them might be the best way out to a state that is more enjoyable3. That is, when in a state where inactivity is easy and reinforced, where there is little drive and all desires are muted, kindling and acting upon them and reaching more spark, drive, activation are great!

  1. specifically, that thirst is great bc then you get to enjoy drinking beverages, which then creates a desire to pee later, which you then ALSO GET TO FULFIL! How great! :)

  2. yeah OK, I realize I immediately frame “fulfilling desires”, “doing what you feel like”, “hedonism” in a productivity sense…

  3. and yes, more productive
